The Roy Wilkins Auditorium was originally built as a flex venue "arena" extension to the existing St. Paul Auditorium, a 1907 proscenium theater. However, both would be collecitvely referred to as the St. Paul Auditorium until 1982 when the older theater was demolished. This surviving stage was then renovated and reopened in Dec 1984 as the Roy Wilkins Auditorium.
