After DeVos Hall was built in 1980, it began the primarily performance space for plays and musicals. The old interior auditorium was later demolished in 2003 and rebuilt as the ballrooms of the DeVos Place Convention Center. The front facade of the original Civic Auditorium remains on Lyon Street and the lobby also survives.
