Description

The modern Lyric Theater is a combination of two previous smaller theaters - the Lyric and the Apollo. The modern lobby, which sits behind the original 43rd St facade of the Lyric, was previously the majority of the house for the old Lyric. The stage and backstage site were the stage and back stage of the Apollo once stood, but is almost double in size and also covers about half of the space that was the house for the Apollo. In between, taking up what was the entire space of the stage and backstage area of the Lyric, and the lobby and half of the house for the Apollo, is the modern house auditorium, sitting in the center of the entire modern complex. Original elements of both theaters were saved, restored, and incorporate into the new structure. As the modern theater sites across the footprint of both previous theaters and uses elements of both - all three are given individual listings on StageArchive.
