A report that Ann Todd, 48, was robbed by two "Teddy boys" on the Brighton seafront shortly after 12:30 am. She was beaten "mercilessly about the head", and required four stitches. Her dog, Whiskey, who was with her did not bark. Her secretary, Miss Diane Cook, had been checking them into the Royal Crescent Hotel at the time of the attack, having driven down from London after the Saturday night performance. Miss Todd desired to return to her home at Ilchester Place, Kensington. Her secretary drove them back through the night and arrived at 5 a.m. Miss Todd "will be in bed several days and cannot appear on the stage looking as she does". A final note says that her role will be taken by her understudy Miss Sally Home.
